Some
model railway makers add one-time limited series productions
to their regular range of model trains which are announced
to public first and are later being produced depending on
the actual demand. Some items are limited in number (so you
may have to hurry up with your order), some others are limited
by date (orders have to be placed until a certain date). We
are listing this models here for you in order of the countries
where the original railway is situated, since this gives the
best overview both for the modeltrain user as well as for
the model railway collector. Many of these models have become
valueable collectors objects !
Attention:
Items of the Roco International Collection 1-2003 have
to be ordered latest until 30-Aug-2002; only the number ordered
will be produced and it will be hard to find these items next
year!

A
word on limited series of model-trains:
Model
railroad layouts would be a lot more boring without special
series runs. To continue in times where the level gets higher
and higher, items cannot be produced for stock anymore. Three
main modes of realizing a modeltrain special series have developed:
- The
manufacturer announes a limited train-model run but starts
the production not before a certain minimum of models is
sold by orders in advance (like e.g. Liliput, Trix ...)
- The
manufacturer announes to produce any number of a certain
model in case the order is placed until a certain date (like
e.g. the new Roco International Collection)
- A
distributor orders and pays the whole production run of
a certain item and so gets the exclusive right (or possibility)
to sell it (like e.g. Dolischo, LS-Models, etc.).
There
are various ways in between but the main thing they have in
common is that if manufacturers shall support you with interesting
special models you have to support them by a definite promise
to buy. At nowadays demands of quality almost no manufacturer
can produce on his own risk alone and due to the hhuge number
of items almost no dealer can afford to hold big stocks on
all those items.
So
you have to order in advance to decide what will be
produced. It is not fair to complain about a poor variety
of items if you do not buy at the other hand. No one can live
on 'oh, I really like that you have now finally produced this
wonderful train-model, neither dealers, nor makers.
Older
special model railway items which cannot be supplied within
a reasonable time may no longer be listed. In case you want
us to search for such train models, we will, however, do so
- and we are often quite successful.
This
